I am Titanium

That song is in my head. I stayed up working on some things for work and was scrolling to see what was on TV. Saw that the David Guetta Live concert was on. And though I do like some of his songs to bounce around to, it was kind of boring to watch the concert on TV. He's behind the turntables, the lighting effects don't grasp me the same way as being there in person. And I definitely wasn't you know... Well, if you don't, I won't say. It's one of those things where you have to be THERE.

Anyway, guess what? I'm wearing shorts again. I thought I'd give my white legs a second chance.

Have any of you ever gotten lectured about what you were wearing, by your parents? It's interesting because I was having this conversation with the friendboy's sisters. And their dad always had something to say about them wearing shorts before leaving to go out. And here I am, wearing shorts.

I had friends who's parents always had "the talk" about their dress. I never got that. Growing up, I did not live in a home with both my mom and dad. So I did not have my dad there to tell me, "Don't you dare walk out wearing those things." Actually, come to think of it, I don't think he would tell me that anyway. My mom was always working or at school and wasn't always there to tell me either. Luckily, my parents are each pretty liberal with keeping safety in mind. Besides, I was out of my skin tight tube top midriffs and leather hot pants way before they got home..... JUST KIDDING Mom and Dad if you're reading this...

In junior high/high school, I did however walk out of the house with no make up on and once I got to the gates of school, I would quickly apply my lip-liner and lipstick. I just assumed that my mom would get mad if I wore make-up. I used to play with hers as a kid and she would get so mad that I was "wasting" it (lack of technique and no place to go with it anyway). I just assumed that it translated to "you're not allowed to wear any."

Every parent does have their little thing that gets them. My mom's was boys. Maybe I could go out and wear all my favorite clothes/trends but if a boy called the house she'd say, "Who's that?" I'd respond, "Oh it's for homework." Right.. That's probably how this whole "friendboy" thing came up.

Wishful Wednesday :: Peplum

I'm still in search of a strapless peplum dress that's not white. I have a couple of weddings to go to and I wanted to wear peplum to the last one in Maui, but just couldn't find the right dress. I don't know what it is but when I am looking for something, I become very specific about how I want it to look. Do you ever get that way? Anyway, two more weddings ahead. One in less than a month!!!

ASOS Floral Peplum

I could go really floral. Or is that too busy for a wedding? And, it's no longer strapless.

Mollie Peplum Dress

During my search, I found THIS!! I don't actually like the above dress in Taffeta. I just had to put this up here because it's kind of funny. Reminds me of the 80s. Makes me feel like I should crimp my hair, spray it down with Aquanet, and put it in a side pony tail. Anyway, moving forward...

Alice + Olivia Victoria Peplum

Maybe I ought to go very conservative? But then again, I like the idea of having no straps/sleeves because it's going to be hot. It's summer!!

Nasty Gal Wrapped Peplum

I thought this was cute too. But that deep V worries me. Especially at a wedding.

Dorothy Perkins Stone Lace Top Peplum

Is this too matronly?

ASOS Bandeau Dress w/ Peplum

This might be a little loud, right? Yeah...

Topshop Peplum Scuba Pencil Skirt

Is that too boring and BLACK for a wedding?

Do you see my dilemma here? Suggestions? See a peplum dress that you think is wedding appropriate in the month of July? Please share. I need some shopping help.

Tuesday Tastings :: The Pie Hole

Totally found this place by chance. We weren't looking for this place but I did hear about this place from Vivian of Diamonds & Tulle. Actually a friend and I were across the street getting Wurstkuche to go! We were waiting around outside and looked across the street. And there it was. The Pie Hole.

Of course, we decided to walk in and check it out. We had time.

Inside is a small area with chairs and tables. Very limited seating. At first we weren't sure where the pies were... then we turned to our left.

Sweet displayed out front and savory ones made in the back. We didn't know what to do with ourselves. We were already two sausages and one large Belgian fry order in and were then tempted with PIE!

They even have The Pie Hole swag!

Needless to say, we ordered two chicken pot pies and one Crostata to go. We figured we'd eat it... later.... Hey, don't judge.

We actually saved our goodies for lunch the next day. The person who helped us at the counter gave ours to us slightly undercooked so we could complete the cooking process at home. She gave us some great heating instructions and we were set.

After heating it in our toaster oven for about 15-20 minutes it was ready to eat... and piping hot! We were instructed to heat it at 400 degrees in the regular oven for 7 minutes but I don't think the woman who helped us knew we would be fridging it. In any case, really nice and flaky crust. I love pie crust! Pretty juicy on the inside with fresh chicken tender meat.

And we sure didn't forget dessert! The Crostata was a very decadent and rich chocolate, caramel, and sea salt slice of sweetness. I warn you, it is VERY rich! Almost too rich for this chocoholic. Hard to believe right? It was a toss up between this one and the Mexican Chocolate pie. Next time... I. Will. Eat. You.

Will we be back? Probably.

What are some of the food adventures you've had? Any of you in LA? If so, please share your favorite spots with me :)

Wishful Wednesday :: Chanel

A girl can dream right? I probably will never own a Chanel anything... unless someone wanted to be SUPER generous and just give me something branded by them.

So for now, I'll just wish for:

Vintage Chanel
Vintage Chanel Double Stitch

Vintage Chanel Denim Tote

Vintage Chanel Small Camera Bag

And maybe some:
Chanel Bracelet

I might as well just get a purse for the amount the bangle costs. It's only $2326.03. No biggie.

Golden Griproix Pendant Necklace
Vintage Chanel Lace Top

Hmm.. at this rate. I think I'd probably only be able to afford this:

Chanel Brow Kit
Or Maybe:

Chanel Hydrating Sheer Lip Shine

Or MAYBE this:

Coco Mademoiselle Parfum Spray

Which by the way, smells delicious!

Anyway, like I said. A girl can dream right? Happy Hump Day!

What are some of the things that are out of grasp for you, that you wish you had?

Glutton Tuesdays :: Com Tam (Broken Rice)

I'm sure you're all very aware of my love for food. Well, that's probably never going to change. Sometimes I wonder why I just didn't start a food blog only. But then, I think I would expose too much of what a real fatty I am. One food post a week (unless I'm on vacation) is probably a good moderator for me.

Anyway, this post is for the Vietnamese cuisine lovers. The friendboy and I love to go to Garden Grove/Westminster area because well, that's where the legit Vietnamese food is. Some of our favorite dishes include (but are not limited to) Pho (Rice Noodle Soup with flank steak in a beef broth), Banh Mi (French baguette sandwich filled with BBQ Pork - or at least mine is), Cha Gio (deep friend egg rolls), and Com Tam (Broken rice dishes served with various items).

Going to Westminster always feels a wee bit like we're no longer in SoCal. There is one specific area that is very concentrated in all kinds of Vietnamese foods and shops.

I would have never found this place on my own if it weren't for the friendboy who already knew about this place from before, through other friends. But like all other places in the area, it is what it is, a "hole-in-the-wall" restaurant.

Very small space. Not the best decor (not matching anyway). You're simply there to eat.

Vietnamese people also display their good luck charms. The cat in the middle is always mistaken as a Chinese charm but it's actually Japanese. Asian business owners often display these statues to welcome luck and fortune.

Everyone gets a bowl of soup with pork and green onions. I like to think this helps cleanse the palette ;) I'm totally making up my own 3 course meal (we only had two dishes -including this bowl of soup - anyway).

I had the broken rice plate with the charbroiled pork chop, egg quiche (orange dyed steamed egg with miced pork and vermicelli noodles), and pickled vegetables (in the blurred distance). It also comes served with Nuoc Mam which is essentially fish sauce with lemon juice, pickled vegetables, and various herbs and spices. I like to add chili sauce into it too. I love spicy! You're probably thinking, "Oh gross. Fish sauce?" But it's really good! I also thought the same thing but realized how well it went with everything!!

I know it's not for everyone... but I encourage you to get out of your comfort zones once in awhile and try something new.

Happy Tuesday!

LA Color Rush

Hope everyone had a great Father's Day weekend. We celebrate the way we know best.. with food. But I'll talk about food later.

I've been a native SoCal girl all my life. I've never lived anywhere else. I'm spoiled by the weather (I get cold when its 70 degrees), the food (as you can see from my gluttony posts), and especially the scenery! Perhaps you're from here and you're thinking, "Pssh! What scenery?" Or... you're not from here and you're thinking, "You mean all that 'graffiti' behind you in those photos?"

I think when I was younger, I never paid much attention to the "writings on the walls" (The literal writings. Not the Destiny's Child's album. Just clarifying). I used to never really understand why people HAD to put all their art on the sides of freeways or on random buildings. But over the years, I've come to appreciate it. I like finding it when I do and my favorites will always be the drawings/paintings off of the 101frwy/Spring Street exit (which they've actually photographed, hung as a banner, and painted over the originals... sad).

I'm also not saying that I like ALL the walls of LA to be painted on. I still enjoy green trees and flowers and a "clean" and a polished look. I just think that some areas have so much more character with people's artwork, proudly displayed for all to see, share, and love. It's a nice rush of color in one moment then back to peace in the next.

Until next time my friends... Oh and... Happy Monday!

Eyewear Friday :||: Cat Eye Vintage Spectacles

Being in the optical industry, it's easy for me to spot various eyewear styles. I may not wear all types of styles myself, but I can appreciate the designs of eyewear out there! And, it's so easy for me to be distracted by it since it's what I do 8-10 hours a day, 5 days a week! My "natural" instinct is to look in the direction of cool eyewear and wonder what brand it is ... or .. try to name the model/style in my mind. Nerdy I know... shush!

While I was out last week, I spotted a small vintage eyewear shop called Cateye Vintage Spectacles on Heliotrope in Los Angeles. I just had to walk in. It's what I do. I like to browse the different styles and observe the type of clientele that those types of shops get. I also look at craftsmanship, age of the vintage pieces (plastic becomes brittle over time with exposure to elements - we usually advise NOT to re-use older frames for this reason, unless it's been well taken care of), and price. I'm always looking at what my "competition" is and what other fashion demands there are in the eyewear market.

I absolutely loved the displays that were set up. I would love to have something like that in my own store. I think the closest thing I have in my own shop that is "retro" or vintage-inspired are some Polo Ralph Lauren P3 shaped aviators. Very John Lennon if you ask me.

Anyone remember these styles? Well you should, 'cuz it's been out there... again! :) Loved the details of this very summery piece. Found this a version of the 70s style here.

I loved seeing ALL the different frames out! So many cool vintage pieces! And they are all brand new. Never used/worn. They've all been taken care of and only exposed for display purposes. I had to ask...

What's your eyewear style? Are you into vintage? Modern? Sophisticated? Nerdy/Geek Chic? Sexy? Simple? Retro? What are some of the things that you look for in a good pair of eye glasses or sunglasses?

Happy Friday and have an awesome weekend!

Wishful Wednesday :: White Skinny Jeans

Thank you for your suggestions and input on watches from last Wednesday. I'm still shopping around.

I've also been looking for a good pair of white skinny jeans. It's really hard because white can be so trivial sometimes. It can be see through, it gets dirty easily, and the fabric makes a big difference!

Maybe I'm just really picky but I want to make sure they fit right. White is also difficult in the sense that it can make you look bigger than you actually are... or can make you look in-proportionate. At least I feel that way. I'm about 5'4" and I'm not super tall and thin but I'm also not that short either. I've tried on pairs where they fit buuuuuuut... it was too thin and exposed everything! Or, I've tried some on where it was the right thickness of fabric BUT... it was not flattering.

Here's a couple of styles I've pulled. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

J Brand

Joe's Jeans

Paige Denim

Current Elliott

Rich & Skinny

I've also been thinking about getting a pair of den.m|bar skinny jeans too. They recently just got white denim into their shop. I happened to stop by this past weekend and saw that. I have yet to get my own pair. And when I do, I'll definitely blog about the process which is utterly cool. And I am not being biased. I think the concept of having custom jeans is awesome. If you're in LA, definitely check out the shop.
